How to dispose a mattress in Singapore

Jump to:

Replacing an old mattress? Whether it’s sagging, stained, or simply outlived its comfort, getting rid of a mattress in Singapore can feel like a hassle.

But the good news is—there are several responsible (and even rewarding) ways to dispose of or pass it on. This guide breaks down your options from booking a bulky item removal through your town council to donating it to someone in need or reselling it online. We’ve also included a full list of town councils with their contact details, plus where to donate or sell your used mattress hassle-free.

Bulky item removal service

For HDB residents, many town councils offer free removal services for bulky items, including mattresses. Here is a list* of town councils with a free bulky item removal service.

Please note that services and contact information may change over time. It’s advisable to verify the details with the respective organisations before proceeding.

  • Service Limitations: Most Town Councils offer free removal of up to 3 bulky items per household per month. Items must be manageable by two workers and fit into the lift.
  • Advance booking with a 3 working days’ notice is often required by most Town Councils
  • Placement of Items: Items should be placed at the designated collection point (e.g., outside your unit) only on the day of collection to avoid obstruction

For private estate residents, there are both free and paid options available

  • Check with your condo’s management office, some condominiums offer scheduled bulk waste removal (e.g. once a month or by request)
  • Engaged a licensed waste disposal company to provide the removal service. NEA’s list of licensed waste collectors is available here.

Where to donate preloved mattresses?

Before donating, please ensure the mattress is clean, in good condition, and free from damage, stains, mould, or tears. A good rule of thumb: if you would not sleep on it yourself, it may not be suitable for someone else. Donation is about giving thoughtfully to help others, not a means to dispose of items that are no longer usable. Let’s share with care and dignity!

1. Pass It On

A non-profit platform linking donors with voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs). Mattresses are sometimes requested for families in need.
For more information visit www.passiton.org.sg
Note: Pickup is not guaranteed.

2. Carousell (Free Section)

Post your mattress under “Free Items” for local takers. Many users look for affordable second-hand options.

3. The Salvation Army

Accepts household goods at specific donation-in-kind booths. Mattress acceptance varies—call ahead to confirm.

4. Facebook Community Groups

Join these active donation-based communities
e.g (Singapore) give away / donate item FOC for those in need

These groups often have individuals or families looking for mattresses and household furniture.

5. Migrant Worker Support Networks

These groups occasionally accept mattress donations for migrant or low-income communities:

Where to resell your preloved mattresses?

This would be a great idea if you are upgrading your mattress or moving to a different place and no longer need it. Many in Singapore look for affordable second-hand mattresses in decent shape, making resale a great way to extend their use while recouping some cost. Here are some popular reselling options in Singapore.

1. Carousell (Most Popular Option)

Best for: Second-hand furniture including mattresses
Why it works: High traffic, easy-to-use app, and buyers are often nearby.

  • Tips:
Include clear photos from multiple angles
Mention the brand, size (single, queen, etc.), age, and condition
State if you offer delivery or self-collection

2. Gumtree

Best for: Budget buyers who browse classifieds-style listings

  • Not as popular as Carousell but still worth a try—especially for larger household items.
